Friday, September 30th, 2022: Drury on Rampage Against Mets!
It was a big day with the bat for Brandon Drury of the Anaheim Angels at Edison International Field as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat New York 14-13.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 6 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Drury had collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Angels had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
B. Drury hit a solo-shot off K. Kendrick in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, doubled in the 9th and doubled in the 11th.
Thus far in 2022 Drury has hit .344 with 19 home runs, 90 RBIs and scored 123 runs.
Friday, September 16th, 2022: Mercado Raps 300-th Roundtripper
"I wasn't trying to hit a homer. I just wanted to make contact."
That's what Pedro Mercado told reporters after he made baseball history today at Edison International Field. The prolific slugger belted home run #300 in the Anaheim Angels 5-3 victory over the New York Yankees.
The standout second baseman collected 1 hit in 4 at-bats with 1 run batted in and 1 run scored.
"I guess this puts me in baseball's elite," said Mercado. "I don't feel any different. I probably should, but I don't. Still, it is a nice achievement. I did get a little excited, didn't I?"
For his career Mercado has batted .294 and hit 300 home runs.
Friday, August 26th, 2022: Knapp Rips Anaheim for 6 Hits
"Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Boston's Jim Knapp told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Knapp today as he collected 6 hits in 6 at-bats against Anaheim. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Red Sox knocked off the Angels 12-10 at Fenway Park II.
J. Knapp doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off B. McCarthy in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off B. McCarthy in the 9th.
This year Knapp is batting .284 with 8 home runs and 47 RBIs. In 120 games he has scored 83 times.
