| Thursday, July 8th, 2032: Swanson Torches Athletics for 5 Hits On top of the Chicago hit parade today was Pat Swanson. He went to the plate 5 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Cubs to a 16-8 victory over the Oakland Athletics. He certainly had their number at the plate in this record-making 5-5 performance.
The sweet swinging left fielder told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
The skipper of the Athletics wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."
P. Swanson singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off B. Cook in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off M. Price in the 8th and walked in the 9th.
Swanson is currently hitting at a .314 pace with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs. | |
