Saturday, October 2nd, 2027: Ouch! António Román Shelved by Injury
The Marlins received bad news this morning. António Román will miss 1-2 weeks due to a concussion. In the Floride-Cleveland game he sustained the injury while making a defensive play. "I'm disappointed more than anything," he told reporters later in the day. "You can't help your team on the bench," Román sighed. "I'll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery."
Presently Román is batting .293 with 6 home runs and 48 RBIs. He has played in 127 games and scored 58 times.
Tuesday, September 21st, 2027: Floride Left Fielder Injured
The Floride Marlins will lose the services of left fielder Ricardo Deleón after he sustained a torn calf muscle while running the bases in today's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. When asked about the injury, he took a philosophical approach. "Worse things can happen in life," Deleón said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 2-3 months.
In 2027 Deleón is batting .328 with 36 home runs and 124 RBIs.
Monday, September 20th, 2027: Hayashi Goes 5-5
Shigemasa Hayashi was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Pirates to a 9-8 victory over the Floride Marlins.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Pittsburgh left fielder said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Hayashi finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
S. Hayashi singled in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off D. Osborne in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off M. Goodwin in the 10th.
This season in 128 games, Hayashi has hit at a .350 clip with 186 hits, 25 home runs, 97 RBIs and 109 runs scored.
