Thursday, May 27th, 2027: Glover Hurt, Out of Lineup 2 Weeks
Detroit fans held their breath as Mark Glover left yesterday's White Sox-Tigers contest with an injury. After the game, the team's medical staff said that the 26-year-old center fielder had suffered a pinched nerve while making a defensive play. It's estimated that he will be out 2 weeks.
This year Glover is hitting at a .307 pace with 16 home runs and 47 RBIs. He has played in 44 games and scored 36 times.
Tuesday, May 4th, 2027: Bower Batters Detroit Big Time!
"It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Reggie Bower after his 6-hit performance against the Tigers. "No offense meant to Detroit, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Edison International Field!"
The Anaheim catcher had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 6 hits in 6 at-bats and pacing his club to a 8-6 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Reggie worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Bower said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
R. Bower doubled in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 9th, singled in the 10th and hit a two-run home run off B. Burton in the 12th.
So far this year Bower is hitting .263 with 4 home runs.
Sunday, April 18th, 2027: Anderson Strokes 5 Hits
5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book.
In the Twins 21-12 win over Detroit, Brian Anderson was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Anderson delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
B. Anderson singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off E. Francis in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off J. Blake in the 7th, walked in the 9th and walked in a run in the 9th.
Anderson is presently batting .390 with 9 home runs, 14 runs scored and 29 RBIs. His OBP is .463.
