Friday, September 2nd, 2022: Williamson Hurt, Listed Day-to-Day
Is Kent Williamson going to tough it out and play through an injury? We'll get the chance to find out in the next 1-2 weeks as the outstanding Minnesota reliever attempts to shrug off a damaged meniscus he sustained throwing a pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals. Whether the management lets him play or handles him with kid gloves will depend mostly on how Williamson feels on a day-to-day basis. But there's little doubt that the Minnesota Twins will be happy for the talented player to return at full strength as soon as possible.
So far this year Williamson has been credited with 1 save, registered a 6.39 ERA and struck out 26 in 56.1 innings. He also has a 2-1 record.
Thursday, September 1st, 2022: Carter Wins Best Bat Trophy in August
Dale Carter was declared the American Batter of the Month today. Minnesota's right fielder stroked 34 hits in 101 at-bats for a .337 average in August.
He also hit 11 home runs, drove in 27 and scored 27 runs.
In 2022 Carter has produced 163 hits in 487 at-bats for a .335 average with 43 home runs and gotten on base at a .454 clip.
Wednesday, August 10th, 2022: Iwakuma Guns down Minnesota
"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.
Well, good pitching also beats bad batting.
In his postgame interview the Minnesota manager said, "Hisashi Iwakuma made us look real bad today. He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."
Iwakuma had 9 strikeouts, 2 walks and allowed only 2 hits as the Texas Rangers whitewashed the Minnesota Twins 7-0.
This year Iwakuma has made 26 starts, thrown 165.1 innings, fanned 127 batters and walked 73. His won-lost record is 10-5 with a 5.06 ERA.
